Workshops & Counselling Sessions

How to deal more effectively with the pressures of working in primary care.

Quote: “Since doing the team away day workshop, I feel closer to my team and more aware of how we can support each other”

The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the urgent need to address the wellbeing of those working in healthcare as identified in reports prior to the pandemic by the BMA, GMC and HEE (2018-19). My wellbeing workshops address the concerns raised in these reports and take into account the additional impact of Covid-19.
Research shows that people working in healthcare professions often disengage from their emotions in order to survive the traumatic nature of the work. However, this increases the likelihood of burnout (Gleichgerrcht & Decety 2013).
My workshops give participants valuable tools to effectively engage with their emotions with an emphasis on self-care and team support. I work in a variety of healthcare organisations, with particular expertise in the needs of General Practice.
"Our aim should be to create workplaces that support doctors and other healthcare staff by promoting their mental health and wellbeing" (GMC)

I offer a variety of workshop formats to suit the needs of your practice or PCN and these can be run as lunch time or evening meetings, half day or whole day sessions.

Introduction to Emotional Wellbeing
This is recommended as a first workshop and covers why Emotional Wellbeing is important but often neglected. It provides an easy to remember structure which allows whole teams, and the individual team members, to foster their wellbeing during the workshop and continue to develop this well into the future. This enriches teams with more resilience to stress and less chance of burnout. In addition, your organisation may have less sick-leave and better staff retention.
I have been a GP for 25 years including 15 years as an educator and 8 years as a senior partner. I am a fully qualified Counsellor with a BA (Hons) degree in Counselling.
Through my work as a Counsellor and Wellbeing Coach I am able to share my passion for the wellbeing of individuals and teams in the context of general practice.
I have been awarded FRCGP in recognition of my work in the areas of wellbeing and education and have led educational events for the Practitioner Health Programme (PHP) and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

If life feels like a struggle, with painful thoughts and feelings from which you cannot escape or are exhausted fighting back - call me. I can provide you with a calm, peaceful sanctuary away from the stress of life to find yourself & be empowered.

I am an experienced counsellor offering one-to-one sessions for a wide range of emotional, mental health, relationship and spiritual issues.

My area of expertise is working with people in the health professions where stress forms a part of the job. My counselling experience includes doctors, nurses, teachers, clergy, business professionals, musicians and students.

I offer both short-term and long-term counselling depending on your needs and preferences. My style of working is both relational and integrative, two elements which are widely held by experts to be important for effective counselling.

Currently, I am doing all of my counselling work on-line. Additionally, I have private counselling rooms in Regent Street and in Middlesex, close to the borders of Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire, where I also offer outdoor 'walk & talk' counselling in the local countryside.

In addition, I am on the staff of the St Marylebone Healing & Counselling Centre near Baker Street and I am the appointed counsellor to the students at the London School of Theology.

In my capacity as a wellbeing coach I run workshops for national and local healthcare organisations and groups such as the Practitioner Health Programme, on wellbeing issues such as stress, burnout, resilience and self-care.

I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, a fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners and a member of the Christian Medical Fellowship.
